Reviewing God's Blessings
While ministering as an outreach pastor, God burdened Pastor Guy Altizer to start a church in Simpsonville. After much prayer and hard work, 156 people met together for the first time on February 10, 1985.
The charter service of Calvary Baptist Church was held two years later on July 26, 1987. Some 30 members who were at that service continue to worship at Calvary today.
The church purchased the original 13 acres of our campus in 1988. The auditorium, nursery wing, and gymnasium were constructed. God provided additional facilities in the following years: our church offices and Youth Center – where teens and other groups meet for worship and fellowship.
Celebrating God’s Goodness
The second Sunday of February, we celebrate Heritage Sunday – Calvary’s anniversary. Heritage Sunday gives our church family the opportunity to look back at God’s blessings and forward to the exciting days of growth and ministry ahead.
In August 2012, we celebrated the completion of our new facility and the beginning of a new season in the life of Calvary Baptist Church. We are now enjoying a place to worship, fellowship, learn, and grow that visibly represent to our community the ministry of Calvary.
Facilities are a necessary part of growth and ministry. But real growth happens as people worship together, hear and respond to God’s Word, interact with one another, and form meaningful relationships. That’s what we’re all about.
